Notable PHP-based sites?

I'm hoping to find a list of notable, high-profile sites that leverage PHP. Could someone point me in the right direction?

If a list isn't available, would you folks mind sharing the names of some sites that take advantage of PHP?

My personal site at http://www.brianwebbphoto.com uses PHP/MySQL and uses about 1GB bandwidth/mo. I am also using PHP to drive (what I hope will be) a large scale site at http://www.phototraveler.net.

As far as I know Lycos uses PHP.

There are a lot of Russian web sites - some of which are very famous over here - that leverage PHP.
Sites that can afford it use custom CGI solutions that usually fit their needs. For instance Amazon.com is using obidos which is very fast, but again, it's a custom CGI solution all done in C. If you need good speed, you can just rewrite your site in C and get better speed in almost every page.

Frankly, I don't see any reason against writing your site in PHP. Given a custom hosting option with custom hardware, special Zend software such as Cache, your site can fly, even if it's close to Microsoft's in the degree of its complexity.

Thanks alot guys. I'm in the process of choosing a new language to migrate to. Most of my work is currently done in ColdFusion and ASP but I'd like to be able to use something that can offer me the same (or better) capabilities but with less cost to entry for my clients. ASP & PHP definitely adhere to that but PHP's cross-platform capabilities really pushes it forward.

I also like the fact that more companies are stepping up and offerring dedicated support policies for PHP (akin to LinuxCare). That's a definite plus from a perception perspective. A lot of the clients that I work with like the "warm and fuzzies" that they get from having an established company behind a product.

Again, thank you for the great feedback and advice. It says alot for the PHP community when you guys come out and help a newbie get some solid and quick answers.
