Update Date

Hi,

I am newbie using MySQL. I have a field in my table called UpdateDate and declared as DATETIME. I would like each time I add new or change record to my table, the UpdateDate should be automatically updating the current date and time. The results should be displayed like this 2002-02-15 02:30:05

Is this possible?

I'm pretty sure a timestamp column type will do this. It will definatly get set in insert and I -think- it will be updated on update too, but you should read the manual concerning this.

yup, a "TIMESTAMP" type field will automatically update anytime that record is altered.

Thank you Tom and Sevex for your response. Tom, I read the documentation regarding TIMESTAMP as you suggested. I changed my UpdateDate to TIMESTAMP(14). When I insert new record in table the UpdateDate automatically generates date and time for me. However, when I changed one of the record in my table, the UpdateDate did not change with the new time at all. Any suggestions?

that's strange... anytime I did an UPDATE the timestamp field always got changed to the current time.
