"reminder service" - use "cron&quot

Hi,

Just wondering if any of you guys have implemented a web-based "reminder service" for your users - if yes, which one do you use ?

"Cron" OR "at" ? Assuming you have about 3000 - 5000 users using your reminder service, which one produces less server load ?

Appreciate any feedback or tips.

I have only used cron scripts so my experience is slightly limited but in my opinion, it all comes down to how you code the scripts.
The way I would handle it is just insert the reminders into the database and have the script run every 15 minutes to pull them out and send them. Even with 3000-5000 users there shouldn't be more then 100-200 reminders at any time. PHP is fast enough to send out that many emails in 15 minutes.

Thanks Bryan, for the input. Would it make any difference if your host is a shared host and not a dedicated machine ?

The site is running on a shared host.
