Hi Joseph.
The editor i use most frequently is Macromedia Homesite. I have also used
TextPad, which is cool, but i do like Homesite a bit better. Here's why:
A) Homesite has a function that automatically writes closing tags when working with HTML & Cold Fusion elements ( i think it's customisable, so i will make it do the same for PHP code blocks.)
😎 Homesite (and other editors) have syntax coloring, syntax highlighting too -
for different items (comments, scripts, attribute values, links, function & variable declarations)
C) Homesite has a "build image map" wizard,
but it is faulty and tends to work opposite of what you want it to do. Maybe make an image map wizard that actually works.
D) Homesite has a "code snippets" library where you can save code fragments for reuse.
(i cannot tell you how many times i made syntax errors from all the retyping (you can't always find an old document with the code you want, but you can store code there,
and when you need it, double-click,
and it appears in your document. Neat !
E) Homesite has stored wizards for Cold Fusion, JSP, ASP and other languages too.
F) Homesite has a really neat HTML color picker that shows you the hex value as you mouse over a color swatch.
G) Homesite can preview images in its own
application window, and you can drag and drop an image from the file list and it
will add it to your code while remembering the directory path for the image.
H) and lastly (that i know of):
Homesite has a vast library of keyboard
shortcuts to speed up your tasks,
AND YOU CAN WORK LIVE VIA AN FTP interface.
Hope this helps you to design a really
kick-ass editor !
Adam
