site navigation from mysql

i am developing www.pmi-german.org which has a navigation of 3 levels (1st level on the top, 2nd level on the left depending on first level and on some subsites a 3rd level. the menu items comes from a database.

as u can see, the 3 navigations are on different places and have all different db queries.

is it recommended to make 3 db-queries for each level or is it better to load all (100) items in an array at the beginning of the site and display them depending on which site i am?

When you say they have different db queries, do they hit different tables? If they don't, I would do 1 query and use the data throughout my script.

Each seperate query you do takes time and uses system resources. On a lightly loaded server this won't be an issue, but get a heavy load and you would see the difference.
