i'm looking for an editor for html and php. it should support syntax-highlighting and stuff like that for both languages and it should be a bit more comfortable than notepad...
at the moment i'm trying ultraedit, but it's not quite perfect for this task.
is there a good (free??) one for windows?

any help welcomed

No question in my mind: use Editplus 2

      Oh man....
this thread is gonna get big, cause everyone thinks their editor is da schizzzzzzzzznit!

Currently, I am using HomeSite, and it seems to be ok. But, I'll probably be switching back to WinEdit (http://www.winedit.com) since that one has been so damn good to me and it can do just about anything I could ever want. It has a nice code debugger, let's you test build C and Java apps, has it's own FTP client and plugs right into your default browser for rapid page browsing.
And being a multilanguage supporting editor, it eleminates the need to do C coding in say MSDEV and Java in another and your PHP in yet another. All languages and all the features all in one app.

      Nice.

Looks pretty cool actually, has all kinds of nifty plug-ins too. Don't have time to let it make itself my default for anything right now, but I'll definitely crack it open again when I get some time, seems to have a couple plug-ins for SVG, which is definitely very cool

          I am with you Ben,

          Edit Plus 2 Rocks!

I've used HTML-Kit for a while. Recently though, I've switched over to PHPEdit (not to be confused with PHPEd) from http://www.phpedit.com.

It is for Windows, it is free, pretty stable and has a lot of neat features.
