perl or PHP for e-commerce website?

Hello,
I have to create a website for my company which have more than 3 thousand items. I want to know which launguage is more convience, powerful, and flexible (now and the future) so that I can script the website in.

In my opinion, PHP is easier and more flexible because it can be use co-enside with html. Is there a good reason why I should you perl over php, or vice versa? Thank you!

PHP is easier to learn, has a lot more built-in functions.

PERL can do everything PHP can do, but it requires that you install a lot of extra libraries to get certain functions that PHP has by default. (PHP installs those libraries by default)

PHP is probably a little faster too.

I think you are looking in the wrong place for an impartial review of the 2 languages.

One of the first rules of programming is don't re-invent the wheel. Have you investigated all of the shopping carts that are available today. Some are actually free. (cgiresourceindex.com) (Take a look at Interchange as well as others).
