meta refresh

are there any other alternatives to doing meta refreshes for refreshing a page

if you wanted to check if the database had been changed before doing a refresh , how would you do this ?

Use Output Buffering.

thanks for replying you seem knowledgable can i ask my question again more clearly

is it possible once a database has been MODIFIED to result in the immediate refresh of all users viewing pages which depend on that database

i have the notion of a page continally pinging at the mysql server to see if it has been modified if it has then an immediate refresh is called for

very difficult to find any information on this topic
