Converting dd-mm-yyyy to yyyy-mm-dd

Friends,

I got a date from html form in the format "dd-mm-yyyy" as a single string (not through 3 drop downs!). Now i want this date value to be processed by a php script and push it into mysql table in the form "yyyy-mm-dd".

Is there a function equal to Oracle' TO_DATE(), so that date in any form can be stored into mysql table?

The mktime() function requires my date in int form. But i collected the date from html form in string format.

Please help!

Try:

$yourOldDate = "dd-mm-yyyy";
$unixTimeStamp = strtotime($yourOldDate);
$yourNewDate = date("Y-m-d", $unixTimeStamp);

There's an SQL function called date format which could work, you can search for it at mysql.org.

I haven't used it to do what you're looking for though...

So a good plan B is:

$date = preg_replace('/([0-9]{2})-+([0-9]{2})-+([0-9]{4})/',"\3-\2-\1",$date);
echo $date;

well i can't test it but it should work:

$newDate = implode("-",array_reverse(split("-",$oldDate)));

first split the date in year , month , date
then reverse the array
then implode "-" ...
eg.:
$oldDate = "2001-02-12";
split ... 2001 , 02 , 12
reverse ... 12 , 02 , 2001
implode "12-02-2001"

Well friends,

I solved simply by using JavaScript.

I made some more hidden variable then assigned the converted date to those variable and passed to mysql.

I did like this. I split the date given by user into an array of 3 elements and reassembled into the mysql style date. Then I assigned this date to the hidden element as value.

This is something like what 'tom' told. Thanks tom.
