RE:PHP/MySQL Output to Printer by Client

I am a newbrie in PHP/MySQL and I am looking at rewriting all my dbase (clipper) programmes by PHP/MyAQL so that my operation could be web-enabled.

I bought a few PHP/MySQL reference books and also visited many sites but I could not find any relevent information on printing on the client side with printer formatting information which is a very important part in my coding.

I knew printing on the client side for windows client is handled and fully controlled by the browser. Special printer control codes therefore could not be passed from the PHP on the server side.

I read from other sites that it is possible to use Javascript to format the printer output, but as a newbrie I don't how this could be done.

Form filling is one of the most important requirement in my operation because most of the print forms were not tailered for computer printing. In other words, special print formatting is needed for say half lines or quarter lines, etc. It is quite easy for me to do that with Clipper (dbase compiller) if I knew the control codes for a printer.

I would be grateful for any help in the matter.

You may try this JavaScript snippet:
javascript:window.print();

Use it as a link:
<a href="javascript:window.print()">Print...</a>
or put this at the bottom of your html code:
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
javascript:window.print();
//-->
</script>
and the browser should automatically open the print dialog.
