can't fwrite!?!?!?!?!?!?

People have told me to not put the http://mysite.com/ but the problem is that PHP can't find my directory named usernames. it is chmoded to 777 and is on my main directory. to call, go to http://mysite.com/usernames. when I put "/usernames/".$user.".txt" PHP doesn't find my directory. the script is in the main direcory. Should I put the script in the usernames folder or is their a better way, because I don't have a very secure server so I don't want any of my users to know about the usernames folder. HELP!

you mean your documentroot, which is NOT the same as your filesystem's root.
PHP reads filepaths relative to the filesystem's root, NOT your webserver's document root.

Your usernames directory is something like:

/data/webserver/htdocs/usernames

and PHP expects

/usernames

Uhm no, they already told you 54 times, you CANNOT write to a REMOTE file. You can only write files on your server, and nowhere else.
