A simple question for someone hopefully.

I have created a number of sites for customers(all php database driven). And have now been asked to make one into a e-commerce site. I am not worried about actually processing there payments online as the companys I have already have there own merchant system. All i need to do is go through what they want them e-mail the company with the customers order with the payment type card no etc.

My server is secure so I am covered with that.

I have no problem in creating the store with its products. Just new to taking secure payments.

Can someone point me in the right direction to how about I can go about doing this.

you can put the credit card number in a form using post so the user will not see it nd the merchant system will dot he rest.

I would setup an HTTPS page to insert encrypted order data into a DB. Then give the user a URL to an HTTPS page that pulls the data from the DB.

If you are going to mail the CC numbers to the owner, you will need an encrypted mail client on the users side. Maybe you could use PGP, but I think it is easier to have the user login to an SSL enabled page to retreive the orders.
