Help develop new PHP IDE

Hi, I am looking for people that can help me out building a new PHP IDE based on the eclipse platform (www.eclipse.org).

I have reviewed all the current PHP IDE's (Zend, PHPCoder, PHPEdit, etc.) but none of these appeal to me. Eclipse does.

Eclipse is a raw IDE that is not language specific. Using Java, you can write plugins for any language. Java and C++ IDE plugins have already been developed. Things like syntax highlighting, code suggestions, etc. come as standard.

The problem is, I know PHP but I don't know Java. There is lots of interest for a PHP plugin for eclipse, so if you are looking to make your mark, take on this challenge.

lol so I must install a JRE to get an IDE to create PHP. 🙂

But seriously, I wonder why you need an IDE for PHP in the first place.

It makes sense for C++ or Java because that code quickly grows beyond what any human brain can comprehend, but PHP is so simple and lightweight... what functions can an IDE give you that you cannot live without?

Things like Ultradedit and CodeGenie (personal fav) just don't take up enough resources for some people 🙂

what's wrong with the latest version of PHPEdit... it is super awesome. check out the latest version by going to http://support.phpedit.net and reading the messages... actually, go here:

how about this.. write it in java and then port it to cocoa so i can use it instead of vi on my macosx laptop

I do like this idea. I just downloaded the new eclipse 2.0 and it really is sexy to work with.

The CVS integration with built-in compare etc. is something that I didnt fin in many other editors/IDE.

A PHP syntax highlighter would be very interesting. I guess I will have to dig up some of my old Java knowledge ;-)
