Basically whats better to open and close <? ?> or use echo for html?

The age old question of speed.

I did a benchmark a long time ago, and it turned out that the speed of these methods changes very much with the number of times you use them. It's not a matter of A is faster than B, which one is faster changes with the number of items you print.

I short: use the method thats easiest for you to use, read and maintain.
