Internet+mySql ... Which language???

After some year on inactivity in writing program (I wrote program with VB 3.0, Foxplus, Foxpro some years ago), I would like to write again programs with current technologies.

I would like to develop an internet site that could be used as an 'accounting' site. Let's say that I have plenty of salesmen running around the world. Those people should be able to enter order (in a safe way) from any location (with internet, of course). Once the order is prepared, bill should be sent to the client and be entered automatically in an accounting platform. This accounting platform should ideally be accessible also vie Internet (explorer).

I have read many books about HTML, DHTML, XML, XSL, CSS, ASP, PHP, Java Script, ... and I am a bit lost. Could you give me some advices ...

Go for PHP.
ASP is windows-only (or un*x with an ASP-emulator), neither are reliable.
HTML/DHTML/XML/XSL and CSS are just methods for representing the data, and don't depend on which language you use.
Javascript is clientside, and thus not an option.

PHP is easy to learn, fast and supports every function you can possibly need.

A forum, a FAQ, email notification, what else do you need?
