Who cares if they made their own damn forum software.

Sorry to be so harsh, but there's literally hundreds of forum applications already written, why waste precious weeks of ones life rewriting what has already been done by someone else?

Really though.

As much as I try to create my own code as much as possible (and I have libraries of my own code), I will use what is already in existence if it suits the needs of the application and means that I can get the project done and over with sooner rather than later.

I know what you mean Van and I agree. But please understand that I don't like outsourcing anything. I love to write my own code and created a pretty slick forum section with 2 pages of code, and one table in a db. Your probally thinking that can be done with 1 page of code. But you get my point. So what is the best application for a shopping cart? Is there any that really stick out in your mind? There are limitations though. 1. I don't own the host...its a shared hosting. 2. I have SSL but do not need CC orders to be processed by the site itself. Anything will help.

I agree with you in some points but there is something missing:

If you have limited time to do something (especially all programmers and webmasters suffer from this), then it would be better to be MORE interested in CONTENTS than forum design if there has already been well-written scripts about it.
