Ok thats it! I am throwing in the towel. Can someone send me a link that shows how to install MySQL on a Linux system? Perferbly Slackware. But anything besides Red Hat will work. I DO NOT need one for Red Hat. So can anyone help this brother out? I am setting this up for my dads work and I have Apache, PHP 4, and now trying to get MySQL. There are no errors and I have read all the install information that comes with the package but it just doesn't help. Thanks!

i assume yr compiling from source. how is it not working? what are the errors? what rev of slackware are you running? what's yr gcc?

where you get off thinking anyone is going to solve your problem with nothing to go on is beyond me man.

So why not try 1-900-PSYCHIC-HOTLINE?

Cause if you can't figure it out from the hefty MySQL manual, I really don't see how you expect to figure it out here.

And just for the record, I've installed MySQL3.23 gamma on more than few Linux boxen. But, since it was so damn easy each and every damn time, I can't remember just how I did it.

Maybe that's your clue.

What that your a jack? I'm not half bound to get all up in your face about this. I simply asked a question. A question pertaining to something that people know much more about than I do. Therefore I am asking the question so when someone else gets on here that will ask the same question they can find the answer. Oh and I am running Slack 8, with whatever the gcc they put on. I am a windows kid, always have been always will be. But I thought I would expand my horizons to something a little more challening than just double click and its done. So thank you Van for your words of encouragement. Oh and I dled it from mysql.com...was I not supposed to get it from there? Mysql.com and .org look alike. Also I have read the manual..guess I missed the part of how to install on Slackware. Have a great day.
