using RedirectMatch with a ?

just got a new website up and running and i have old stuff i want to redirect to my current php app(s)...

bah. trying to get RedirectMatch to work sending x to y where y's url has a ? in it... just does not work. anyone have any ideas?

RedirectMatch 301 (^{/old/directory/structure(/.)$)} /new/app.php?cat_id=6

the rule is "working" correctly, in as much that it is processed, but it redirects to:

i tried to escape the "?" with a /, but it didn't work...

any ideas??

write a quick php script:

<? echo urlencode('/new/app.php?cat_id=6'); ?>

copy and paste whatever pops out into your redirect statement

Oh... never mind that, my brain must be fried.

try escaping the ? with a \?
if that doesn't work... well then check out the man pages at apache.org

escaping with a \? just gives me:

meaning that the escape is not being read in that string.

checked the man pages... nuthin'. i gotta imagine that someone has tried to do this before...
