Size html doc to print 8 1/2 X 11 paper

How can I specify html document height to fit within 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper.

Trial and error.

and it will never work properly because you have zero control over which fonts and sizes the client actually uses. You can define the sizes any way you want them, but the end-user can always override it.

Plus the sizes are interpreted differently on IE/Netscape/Opera/Mozilla.

I suggest you try PDF for printable docs, then you truely are in control.

Thanks for the wisdom as I was just thinking about it and was almost to the same conclusion.
Have never worked with producing PDFs ! do you know of any php code/function that can produce PDFs on the fly ?
as I want to pull data from MySQL and define a new page for each client's info set
and then allow the online user to simply hit print to have all the records print one set per page.
