Check if data exists... (mysql)

Hi there!
I have 2 problems that I hope you can help me with (I´m not very good at this):

1.I have a database (MySQL) where you can add your results (how you think the games are going to end) to 4 games every week. After the games are played the admin puts the results of the users through a form that gives out points for different things... The problem is that I get "Undefined variable" if not everyone (7 people) have put in their results. If the data to all 7 of them exists (for that week) it works perfectly. So how can I get rid of the "Undefined variable" and instead print something like "$person hasn't put in results for round 3"?

2.I want to have a deadline (1 hour before the games begin) to when you're allowed to submit your results. In the form that you submit your results through, there is a box with the time of deadline, I guess you should compare that to the actual time. How do I do that?

1. Maybe a little unclear:
   I wanna see if the variable for a user is set, if not - the user should not be processed. How should I express that in PHP-code?

Still not enough info, you can set vars in a million ways.

But, have a look at the isset() function.

Ok, well the variables are set from an array that I get from the database. So I guess that you could check if $row exists... if it exists, run the code. Else don't.

But how can I do that then? Check if a row in a MySQL database exists?

you don't need to create am array, simply use your resultset:

do_query(sql)
if (num_rows<1) no matches
