Accessing Directory outside Root

I have placed a PDF directory outside of Root so that it can't be accessed by someone typing in the URL...however, I want authenticated users to be able to access the PDF by clicking on a link...

I have already created the user authentication script and have move the PDF directory outside of root...but how do I access that directory now?

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks.

Use something like fpassthru() to open the file and send it's content to the client.

Be sure to send along a proper file-type header!

How would I do that??? say the have my header info like the following:

Now would I just post the link to the PDF file within the PDF directory here something like :

<? fpassthru(with path to PDF here?)

A stupid question, but how do I know the path of the file since it is outside the root...
