Php not passing vars

I'm trying pass vars in urls but I've been somewhat unsucessfull ... I even tried the most trivial possible script (the one on http://www.php.net/tut) and it still won't work.

Is there anything in the server config I may have to change? I'm using apache
1.3.24 and php 4.2.0

You are doing something like
<a href="myscript.php?var=value">click here</a> ?

Yes, but I've also tryed using forms (both get and post methods) and nothing works.

is that related to "register_globals" under php.ini? you can get variables from both get/post method while it is "on" or you can use $HTTP_POST_VARS["variable name"]/$HTTP_GET_VARS["variable name"] while it is "off".

Wow. thanks a lot .. I set the register_globals to "on" and the problem was solved .. but I've read this option may be a security risk ... where can I get more help (xplicit if possible, I'm quite a begginer) for the other method u mentioned?

if u concern security, i suggest u to modify yr code with all passing vars to $HTTP_xxxx_VARS["vars_name"]. u can search for doc help from www.php.net

I think you should read the changelog for 4.2.0 and I bet you'll find an answer...
