Category and Links HELP

Hi,

Could anyone help me with my little dilemia!

I have a simple seach and results page set up and I need to change the links according to catgorys.

I have a news section and a music section, everything is all stored in the same table on my database, the only thing that changes them in results is categorys.

I want to change the link of the result shown in the results page to go to the relivant page.

For example I have a music story about Shakira, it is stored as a music category, then I have a news story about Shakira but it is stored as a news category, and the link for a music story would be myhompage.com/music.php?id=11 and a news sotry would be myhompage.com/news.php?id=12!

How do I get the search results to change the link according to the category!

The easiest way is this:

Select the 'category' field from your database during the select process. Then, in your php code, add an 'if' statement before showing the link:

if($category == "news")
{
....<a href=\"news.php?id=$id\">...
}
else
{
....<a href=\"music.php?id=$id>...
}

Can you advise me where to put the following statement!:

if($category == "news")

OK from what Jason has explained, do you have a way of distinguishing between what type of category it is? I do not know the structure of your datastore so I will not make any assumptions. If you have a way to distinguish the category then you would insert something like Jasons idea in the while loop. Need more info on the data structure.
