Form-Variables are emtpy

I have a strange problem:

Recently I compiled php 4.2.0 for apache 1.3.24 on a HPUX and everything works fine so far, except that the variables in a form are not passed on after a submit commando.
Did I forget a configure-option? The same script runs ok on an older php installation.
I configured php with:
./configure --with-informix=yes --enable-ftp --with-apache=../apache_1.3.24 --enable-track-vars --enable-bcmath --with-config-file-path=/etc

any hints are very much appreciated,

Stop, the variables ARE available, BUT:
I have discovered, that the variables are available via
$_POST["name of the input field"] only.
Is this the new way in php 4.2 now, or can I configure it, to have the variables available wit $name of the input field again?

Look here:

You have to set the PHP ini value for "register_globals" to true.

This was by default set to true in earlier installations but recently has been set to false by default.

I think you should keep register globals off because PHP highly reccomends it for security reasons. For instance, if you had chat board or something, and you logged people's ips, and you had 2 variables: $ip and $msg using POST, the person could still use the GET method for instance the user could fake their ip by doing

chat.php?ip=225.202.256.55&msg=Hi

if you used $POST that wouldn't happen. Thats why I try to avoid register_globals and $REQUEST[] as much as possible
