Upgrading PHP to PHP4

I download an simple news manager that was written in PHP. My hosting company supports PHP4. After Uploading the news manager to my site , the article is not working. Do I need to convert the .PHP files to .PHP4 : How do it do that. The hosting company people said that the files have to be .PHP4. How do I convert the files to .php4

not true....the extention .PHP should still work...my guess is some paths have changed, check that...check DB connections.

They might have to be named .php4 if you host has some other old php4 version installed also. That seems highly unlikely though as php 4.2.0 is for the most part backwards compatible with a few minor exceptions here and there. All of our code has worked just fine.
