Upgrading woes to 4.2?

If I want to upgrade to php 4.2 from php 4.0.6... what sort of major woes, headaches, and walls am I going to be faced in regards to old php 4 files running under the new one?

Am I going to have to rewrite every function call that uses any sort of regex?

Am I going to have to rewrite everything to handle global variables differently?

Are there changes that disrupt most commonly used functions of the past?

A lot of these questions are not answered at all... hell, all of them arn't answered... in any of the release notes, or readme files that are about 4.2.

I don't want to go through recompiling a new php on my server, just to have everything break due to some unwarrented changes.

Just make sure:

register_globals = 1

is set in your php.ini, that\'s the only problem I had. Some of the postgresql functions got changed around, but I think the old ones will still work for a little while longer.

I dont think you should change register_globals, it makes your scripts more safe and hacker prone using the superglobals
