JSP vs PHP

Just an observation on server side java versus PHP. I've used PHP in a hobby capacity for a few years. I'm tinkering with JSP's and servlets at the momment. I needed to see what all of the hype was about.

It appears to me that server side java will eventually become what PHP is today (taglibs).

The java prophets are allows quick to spout words like reuse, scaleability and portability when making a case for their method of server side web applications. Can't I get all of that plus readable code and faster development cycles with PHP?

Well, more like: "Why a cross-platform runtime system"?

Java itself is a good language, it's the cross-platform shite that maks it un-usable for a website, it uses way too much resources and offers not real advantage over C or C++ (apart from possibly being easier to write)

A forum, a FAQ, email notification, what else do you need?
