recognising index files

hey,
i have recently installed the latest build of PHP and Apache for windows, replacing the rather slow and poor IIS.

Everything is running fine apart from one thing.

Apache is showing the index.html files in the directory, but not recognising index.php files as start files.

when i type in my IP address i want to see the index.php and not to start browsing the directories.

Please help me, is there anything i have to edit in the httpd.conf file?

Manuals are your friends, read them.

Look for index.html in httpd.conf.

What vincent is saying is that you need to edit you httpd.conf file. Here is a snippet of mine to show you what he means

DirectoryIndex: Name of the file or files to use as a pre-written HTML

directory index. Separate multiple entries with spaces.

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php index.phtml index.php3 index.gam
</IfModule>

As you can see i have set it up to allow a few files to be the index of a directory even file with .gam extensions (my initials). Be aware that i'm not sure what happens if you have an index.html and an index.php in the same directory
