Just trying to get a query to work...

Please be gentle - not only am I really new to php/mysql, but also these forums :-)

My problem is that I consistently get this error when trying to query a table on my site. I've searched for this error here and at mysql.com and found no results. This happens with code I've figured out myself, code that some php/db developers I work with tried, and with some tutorial cut 'n paste stuff:

Warning: 0 is not a MySQL result index in /home/bammer/planetbantz-www/query.php on line 21

Does anyone know where I can start to try and diagnose this?

I actually was able to figure this out - my hosting provider uses only one user for my db access, and I wasn't logging in with that login.

I set up this:
$link=mysql_connect($hostname, $dbusername, $dbpassword);
$link=mysql_connect($hostname);
echo $link

which returned "1" - which led me to believe it was connecting with the username and pass that I was giving it. However, I guess that user didn't have any permissions to select anything?
Changing that login to my given username worked - but now I worried that I have to have code on my site with my domain username and pass in it...

put it in an include file.. like opendb.php and just include that on your pages.

Yeah and also make it a function so you can just call to it whenever.
