Including with an IMG Tag??

Hi,

We presently have a script which pulls some information out of a database (at random), and sticks that into a table with a link back to our site. We would like to be able to give our members the ability to display the table on their site as well... so it will pull information out of our database, etc.

Since the members will not be on our server, I was thinking that perhaps there is a way to allow the members to simply add a tag such as <img src="http://oursite.com/includething.php>, which would then display the table that we have on their site.

Does anyone have any idea on how to do this? Please reply via forums and/or e-mail.

I don't quite understand why you're using an image tag for this. Does the php file generate a .gif or .png file?

If it doesn't your members can still gather your info using this:
<? include('http://oursite.com/includething.php'); ?>

But they will need PHP on their servers.

It depends a lot on just how web dev savy your members are. One of the most appropriate ways of providing data to other sites is via RSS. They do not have to have php to make use of the data from RSS but they would need some type of parser. There are many available in many flavors (php, cgi, asp, probably java as well). This is the most flexible method since it offers up only the data and does not force your formatting or color choices on them. They get only the data and format it how they want.

You could use the cheat I've used before...

have the client include the php file as an external javascript file (in the exact spot they want the table):

and have the PHP spit out document.write() to print the iinfo on their page. Just as with a normal external javascript sheet, don't include the opening/closing script tags for javascript.

If you're writing image data with the script, you can just give them an image tag.

However, if you're outputting HTML, the best solution, as someone else mentioned is an iframe, assuming they don't have scripting capabilites on their system.
