Help ! My SQLd down (messages attached)

Could you please help me to get my mysqldaemon
running please ?

I would be very grateful for your help and it is very
urgent. 🙁

The messages are :

toul01% mysqladmin -u root -p shutdown
Enter password:
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/tmp/mysql.sock' exists!

and :

toul01% Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/home/toul01/usr/local/mysql-3.23.46/var
020530 21:17:33 mysqld ended

You mysql.sck file has gone. You need to restart your web server to allow it to be re-created again

Ditto to what he said. Somehow, your sock file is toast. Check /var/lib/mysql, and /tmp. Restart the web server (Apache: apachectl graceful) and the MySQL daemon (Redhat: service mysqld restart) and it should be OK.

If that doesn't work, check your my.cnf file to make sure your socket is being created in the proper place.
