values from selection boxes

I was wondering if there is a way to find out which item was selected from a selection box. For example, I have one box to select a month, another to select the day, and another to select the year.

I was wanting to check which month was selected, and if it is a month with only 30 days (april, june, sept, nov)... then the DAY selection box would only display 30 rather than 31.

I dont need to know how to add or remove from my selection box. Just how to get the value of the selected item (if this is possible).

You need to use javascript. I think (if I remember correctly) the value will be held in a variable such as:

document.form_name.select_option_name.value
