A simple SELECT

Let me begin by saying I have read the manual on this subject but I can not say I understand how to get it working properly.

What I'd like to know is how to perform a simple query with one result.

$result = mysql_query("SELECT value1 FROM tablename WHERE var1 = 111 AND var2 ='BUY'");

$row = mysql_fetch_row($result);
echo ("how can I now extract the value from row?????");

Greateful for any help on this simple matter.

$query = mysql_query("SELECT value1 FROM table",$Connection);
$Rows = mysql_num_rows($query);

for($i=0;$i<$Rows;$i++){

$result = mysql_result($query,$i,"value1");

}

This is the way i do it. I don't use fetch_array.

What's wrong with fetch_array?

$sql = "SELECT value1 FROM tablename WHERE var1 = 111 AND var2 ='BUY'";
if ($result = mysql_query ($sql) ) {
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result) ) {
echo $row["value1"];
}
}

Nothing wrong. I simply don't use it. The code i provided can be useful to Kristin for debugging scripts.

As a matter of fact, it's been <B>looooooooong</B> time since i don't use the MySQL primitive functions. One fine day i decided to make a class, and now, i just don't use them anymore.

Anyway, use whatever function you like, but i think my code is nice for debug.
