using $_POST[ ] to access an array var

Maybe someone can solve this for me. I have a multiple select list that I've named 'years[]', and PHP puts all of the selected values into an array named 'years' when I have globals turned on. I'm trying to start using the new global arrays ($GET, $POST), but I can't figure out how to access my array variable 'years'. Thanks for your input.

Just like this:

$arrYears = $HTTP_POST_VARS['years'];

foreach ($arrYears as $sValue) {
print $sValue;
print '<br>';
}

I know this works with the "old" variable arrays. I haven't tried it with the new "superglobal" arrays (like POST and SERVER), but it shouldn't make a difference.

I figured it out. A multidimensional array is created, so I can access my array like so:

$_POST['years'][$i]

where $i is an index in the year[] array.

This problem gave me headaches for a week! I have searched through php.net etc and just could not parse the cryptics involved in this simple solution!!!!

Oh, I've read and re-read nd re-re-read most of the stuff on php.net and elsewhere. It was the names that can be used in the form that threw me. I did not realize one could use the var[] format as a name in a form and then post it and retrieve it as an array. That has really made my day!!

Nope, not in Israel. In Alabama. Also not a Jew, a Noachide. But that is a whole dif'rent thread!

I am working on a Guest Book. And, yes, I realize that there are TONS of them out there but I wanted to do one myself. From there I am going to a "threaded forum" like SourceForge's XMLBoard but in PHP using MysQL. This is all prep work for a really BIG project I hope to get to by November, a DataBase users can access (after registering). A friend, Rabbi Markel, and some others want to set it up for use by a "fraternity" of sorts.

Nope. I used "using arrays with forms". I think this was about the third entry on the Yahoo list.

You can peruse the results of my labors thus far by going here. You can check out the admin portion by going here using "Admin" and "Admin". (No fears - I have direct control over the MySQL server - on my home machine - and can easily reset any overt modifications.)

Any suggestions/complaints/rants/etc received with much appreciation and no thoughts of animosity! 😃
