SSL server

I have zero experience working with SSL servers, and I'd like to make my site "secure".

I'm assuming that if I throw my site on my host's SSL server, and then access it like this:
https://secure.myhost.com/myaccount/index.php
then any HTML sent back to my browser will be encrypted? Or secure somehow?

Can someone clarify this, or explain to me what is actually going on or what I should be doing?

You need to buy an ssl certificate for your from someone like verisign and install it on your server.

and have a look around.
