REMOTE_ADDR or something?

First of all,please forgive my dumb question.I would like to know what the stuff beside the author's name is.

(something like this: Author😃avid Foo (wsip68-14-230-237.ph.ph.cox.net)

Is it the IP address of the user? Taking mine for example, why doesn't it consist ONLY of numeric address?And, how do I approach that?By using REMOTE_ADDR?REMOTE_HOST? Thank you very much.

It's the poster's hostname. You get it using the gethostbyaddr() function. See the Network Functions section of the PHP Manual for simliar functions. HTH.
