Pass a value from a popup screen

Hi,
I would like to do the following:
1) A user wants to save his basket and clicks on a "save basket" link
2) A new window pops up requesting that the user enters a name for the basket
3) When he:she clicks on the save (e.g. "submit" button), the popup window gets closed
4) A confirmation screen appears saying that the basket is saved
5) The whole basket (including the name) is saved into the MySql db

Everything works like the sunshine until step 5: everything is saved but the name!
On the confirmation screen, I put a echo($basketname) and the value does appear on the confirmation screen.
But when I look into the db, the name is not there; it looks like a value has been added (I don't get the "NULL", but it's not there).

What did I do wrong???
Any tutorial for that kind of stuff?

echo the value of the name in a hidden form field (as the value) and name it 'basketname' or whatever. Then use $basketname to insert it into the DB.

thanks for the advice.

I could also solve the problem by declaring $basketname as global and it works
(don't know why, but...).

I'll also try your method, maybe more efficient!
