Seperating concerns (Refreshing ...)

Hi,
I need some suggestions for the below problem.

I have a page that gets refreshed every 5 mins with updated information. There are certain functions which slow the process that can be seperated so that it can be executed once when the page is invoked initially.

What would be the best way to seperate the functions?Any suggestions.

I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

A http server doesn't work in the manner. Once the request is sent for that page to be refreshed in your meta tags, then the page dies.

In other words you can't load something after the page refreshes becuase the request dies.
