Apache question

Does anyone know how I can run apache over two or more ports, say 80 and 81? And once I have it running over two ports, do you know how I can specifically limit a virtual host to only use one of the ports? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

For limiting virtual hosts to a specific port, in your config, add the port after the host:

If you have complete access to this server, install webmin. it's an excellent tool to manage your site and it has a really good apache module. I use webmin all the time to create virtual hosts for clients (and even under different ports).

Installation is quite simple. Uncompress (unless you use the rpm) and run the install script. it should run you through the process. no reboot or anything required.

then you control everything from the web. it suaully runs on port 10000 (unless you change it).

for apache, make sure you use the module config in webmin to specify the config files and apache locations. webmin will assume common locations for apache: /usr/local/apache :-)

Is it compatible with win32 builds? My test server is a win98 machine.

Hmm... i've never heard of webmin for win :-(. Webmin is like a sys admin tool that combines all linux/unix administration into a web interface. apache is just one module of it.

I would recommend you get an apche config tool for windows. I'm sure they exist! I'll look for some later on if you are unable to find good ones.

I've never used any config tool with apache+win because I only use apache+win on my home system for syntax testing and simple testing before I upload to my server :-)

if you try it out, let me know too!

Oh: and you probably already will do this: but take a backup of your config files! (and maybe any other files you have edited under your apache installation).

Thanks for everything sridhar. I'll let you know what I think about the program, and yea, I'm a backup freak. I lost everything on my server about 4 years back and almost had a heart attack. One more of those and I may be dead before 25...

Okay sridhar,
I tried the program but it is only intended for win 2000, NT and XP. I'm running a win98 machine. So my solution... I'm gonna try to write a program in Visual Basic. If you have any experience in VB and you're interested in helping I'd love to have you on board, and as far as that goes, anyone with experience in VB, specifically in calling other applications and sending commands after an ole application call, by all means please email me with any assistance you can offer.

And one other thing, the listen 81 port command won't work with my apache, I don't know why either? I can still access the site on the main port but not on the port that i put after the listen syntax. Any suggestions?
