None of this works! HELP!

how can I display the web address of where a redirect comes from? does anyone know?

example, I have a link on a web server called "site1.com" which points to a different page on a different web server "site2.com" .

When someone comes to site2.com from that link, how do I see the HTTP_REFERER? No matter what I do, I cannot get the server to show me the web address of server site1.com

when I loop the global vars like this:

foreach($GLOBALS as $n=>$v)
{
echo $n . ":" . $v . "<BR>";
}

it never shows me anything from the referer

i tried $global["HTTP_REFERER"]=, etc. and it never shows me anything.

PLEASE HELP! I am very new and this is driving me crazy!

this is from my working script:
$from_url = getenv("HTTP_REFERER");

thatnks, but when i try to dump the vairable
"$from_url" on my page to see it, there is nothing there it is just blank. I can't figure this out.

Did you click a link to that page? If you just type the url in to IE/NS, then the HTTP_REFERER will be an empty string.

yeah, it is actually a link back to a site from paypal. you click it to return to a thank you page

Try:

$referer = $HTTP_SERVER_VARS["HTTP_REFERER"];

or...

$referer = $_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"];

or if register_globals is set I beleieve the following works to...

$referer = $HTTP_REFERER;
