question about linux redhat

Hi I have a couple of questions about linux. I will be greatly indebted to you if you can help me get this thing working.

I am new to Linux and just installed RedHat Linux 7.something on my computer. I like it but i have a couple of problems.

First, I went to php.net to download php for linux and it said that they don't distribute it anymore and it should come with the linux distribution. If that's the case where is it on my computer and how do I get it working.

Second, How do you install .tar.gz files. I am trying to install some programs to get me going and they are all in tar.gz format, but i don't know how are where to install them.

Third, My dang printer doesn't work. When I was in GNOME I ran through some printer setup and I could print a test page but couldn't print anything off the internet. I switch to KDE and same thing. it says something about...check to make sure CUPS is installed and working correctly...how do I do this.

to find where php is ?

try find / -name php

you will probably want to find php.ini

to install tar.gz files ....

tar zxvf whatever.tar.gz

then cd into whatever and read INSTALL and README

ie cd whatever
pico README

will leave the third question to someone more learned in this area
