Dumb Brown - Wanting to learn php @ 13

Yeah, i'm only 13 got my domain etc, php, ssi, ssl, etc and more. But i would love to make a site useing php, but i don't know 1 thing about php. I'm gonna try and et a book but, is there any online manuals, that are easy to understand at 13 years of age? If so please give mte the url! 🙂 Thanks!

OK, so its an example for the integration of PHP with MySQL, but there's a good deal of "explanation" in there.

If you want to learn, go to hotscripts etc and download someone elses work, lets say for example you pick a project that you fancy having a go at yourself. Then strip it to pieces and see if you can work out whats going off. Pick a number of scripts, not just one, because each and every coder has a different style, none of which are particularly wrong, but some will be better than others. Pay close attention to scripts // WITH COMMENTS! because those are intended to be looked at by lesser mortals!

Best of luck, you shouldn't find it hard, just take it one step at a time and stick to the rules.

PHP isn't really too much harder just because of your age. I'm 16 now and started PHP when I was 15. I'd been doing Perl, which is similar to PHP in many ways, since I was 14. I actually have two Perl books, which are semi-reliable for use with PHP, but there are still enough differences that you should check out the PHP docs at http://www.php.net/docs.php. But first you can start with the tutorial at http://www.php.net/tut.php.

If you're really looking for a crash course, download the source for a really big application such as phpBB (message board software - http://www.phpbb.org) and just start looking through the source. These types of things are typically decently commented, and you can look up the parts you don't understand in the docs. You can also try setting up phpBB to run on your server. This way, you can navigate around the site in your browser at the same time as you read the source file for the page you're currently on.

The best way to learn is by example, so seek out everything you can, and good luck!

PHP is really easy to learn. I would recommend www.wrox.com books... Beginning PHP 4.0 especially, it's a great learning tool. In this day and age, youre age doesn't matter. I was pulling paid cilents at 15... its just getting up a decent folio and a couple of sites to prove your worth 🆒
