I had the same problem at first,I am running apache,mysql on windows me. first you must have apache running,then run mysql.
type: mysqld-shareware (enter)
mysql -u username=abhishek (enter)
you should get the message: welcome to mysql monitor --your mysql id is 459 to server:3.22.20a-log
type 'help'for help.
