Oracle connection fails!

Hi All,

I am trying to run a PHP script on HP-UX box
to connect to Oracle 8 located on another Unix box.

I get an error like:
Call to undefined function: ora_logon()

Can some one help solve this problem?

The extensions for php_oracle.dll is included. I have client installed for Oracle and can access the database with SQL*Plus.

Hi!

If you have HP-UX box (Unix clone as I know), so how WINDOWS .dll will work on it?

So, you need Oracle client installed on your HP-UX box (libraries, headers, etc), PHP source, cc (gcc), etc... When you will be configure PHP don't foget to include --with-oracle=[ORACLE_HOME] --with-oci8=[ORACLE_HOME]. Then make, make install, so on.

Or, if I wrong, use php_oci8.dll. php_oracle.dll is for Oracle 7. Plus, you must begin with oci_....(). Read manual.

I can not get php to compile with oracle either...
i get errors when i run make

i have oracle installed...php4.0.4pl1 , apache1.3.19 on RH 6.2 wanting to connect to a oracle database running win2k...i have tried --with-oracle=$oracle_home --with-oci8...etc...etc....
are there any permissions that need to be set....what does the oracle directory permissions need to be for php to use oracle....i get errors when it tries to access files in the ext/oci8 directory..saying files are not found

Thanks for your reply. But we've installed Oracle client on Unix box, PHP source is also included. Still it doesnot work.

How ever, if i run apache locally, i can make connection to oracle but TNSNAMES.ORA file has to reside on the local machine. It doesnot read any file from the network. (We've Novell network here).

Sorry for my great silence.

But your problem description doesn't give a lot of details.

First, where is your software installed? I cannot get it. Is Apache on Unix box? And PHP? What you mean "i run apache locally"? Under Windows?

Second, versions. For example, does your Oracle client version match server version?

Third, protocols. Workstation/server with Novell IPX/SPX protocol will never see Unix machine with TCP/IP.

So, everything what are you doing. Step by step.

As I wrote earlier, Oracle client libraries must be installed on RH6.2. Dont forget to set up Oracle's environment ($ORACLE_HOME,$ORACLE_BASE,..., $LD_LIBRARY_PATH, especially $ORACLE_HOME, export ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle, for bash.).

Try to configure --with-oracle --with-oci8 ....

Still have errors?

Try to configure --with-oracle=/home/oracle --with-oci8=/home/oracle ....

I am trying to connect to a oracle database on a win2k machine from a linux box running rh6.2 oracle8i ...apache1.3.19.....php4.0.4pl1...with the oracle client libraries installed on the linux box in /OraHome1...i can not compile and install php with oracle support...i cant get past 'make' ...i have tried --with-oracle --with-oci8 and also included the path to oracle for both and it says files are missing when it errors out on make but...the files are there.....

Dont give up! :-)
Configure has finished without errors, if I understood right. It is problem with compile on 'make' step...
Set LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to ALL libs directories: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/lib:...:/OraHome1/.../lib:/OraHome1/.../public/lib. I dont know what else
Open /etc/ld.so.conf and add above pathes to this file. One path per line. Save and run 'ldconfig'. Try to 'make'.
If it fails again write which files are missing.

I added the libs /OraHome1/lib /OraHome1/network/lib to ld.so.conf
and added it to my .bash_profile

Here is the last few lines where the error occurs during the 'make'

i cant find the missing files anywhere...where would i get them from....
i installed a client installation of oracle...would there be a reason to do a full installation of oracle for some reason?....

Compiler can't find header files (*.h) that's under /include directories of Oracle installation.
I think the best way is a full installation.

ok...i did a full installation of oracle....i got php to compile with oracle oci8 support....NOW i cant get apache running properly
i configured php with
--with-apxs=/www/http/bin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/www/http/conf --enable-track-vars --enable-debug=no --with-oci8=/OraHome1 --enable-sigchild

i ran make...then make install
moved the php.ini-dist to /www/http/conf/php.ini
uncommented out the php extensions in httpd.conf
now apache wont run properly...
it says apache started but i check with ps aux | grep apache and only one instance is running as root
before i moved over the php file and edited the httpd.conf file...the apache server was working fine
also before i moved over the php file...i stopped the server and the started after i moved the files over....

See apache's error.log file. I think php cannot find some libraries (yes, it's always the same).
What about ld.so.conf and ldconfig? What about LD_LIBRARY_PATH? It's very important for Oracle and for php extensions.
May be you are not 'root'?..
How do you run apache?

I got it up and running...php with oracle suport and apache is running fine...
really appreciate all the help that you have given me trying to figure this out....now i can go help people that are in this same situation....

Hi Sartorius,

We're running Apache 1.3.19 on Unix box.
PHP 4.0.5 is also installed on the same box. Oracle 8i is on another Unix box.
Oracle client is installed on the box where PHP is installed.
I still get the error:
Undefined variable:oci_logon.

Need some help to fix this.

one quick other problem...
after i got everything setup and working
for example i had to reboot my linux box cause i locked up for some strange reason...
now in order for me to get apache up and running with php+oracle support i have to move, rename and copy the httpd.conf file around to get it to start again....
any ideas
..for example...i have to move the original httpd.conf to httpd.bak and move httpd.conf.bak to httpd.conf and then start the server....move the httpd.bak that has php+oracle to httpd.conf and restart the server for apache to run with php+oracle

any ideas

What about OCILogon? And sometimes read manual?
PHP MUST BE configured with Oracle support.

Do you run apache from console? Strange...
I hope you're doing this by 'apachectl' script, not by 'httpd'.
Good idea to get apache up and running by init scripts.

im doing it by apachectl start
i have /www/http/bin/apachectl start in my rc.local file to start the apache at boot time
...should i not do this?
and just manually start it after linux finishes booting up?
