Postgresql wont play nice.

Hi All,

I'm doing some PHP stuff using postgres as my sql backend. I have this form that adds stuff to a table, but for some reason if the table is too big, the stuff doesnt get added, the error I get goes something like this: Warning: 1 is not a valid Postgresql resource...

I decided to delete the table and rebuild it with a limit of 50. Here is the code used to create the table.

CREATE TABLE "queueuser"
(
"password" text(50) not null unique,
"username" text(50) not null,
"dept" text(50) not null,
"name" text(50) not null,
"surname" text(50) not null,
"jobtitle" text(50) not null,
"email" text(50) not null
);

Now I get an error that says their is a parser error at or near "(" I've tried about 10 different types of syntax. Nothing works. Im tearing my hair out, someone please help.

did you try without all those quotes?

Yes, I tried with no quotes, with other types of quotes, but, eventually (about 5 min. ago) I just did a dump of the whole db including data, saved it, dropped the db and rebuilt a new one with my saved dump. But I still get errors that say,and this is the exact quote:

Warning: 1 is not a valid PostgreSQL link resource in /var/www/html/register.php on line 167

...whenever I try add new stuff to the db with my php script. The error ONLY APPEARS when an email address (which is a field) has a [e-mail] format, if I put in [e-mail] it works. Why the hell does it do this?!? The rest of the stuff gets added OK..

That message means you aren't connecting to the database from php. I.e. your pg_connect is failing.

Or you're passing the wrong handle.

It should look something like this:

if (!$conn=pg_connect("<params>"){
die ("Failed to connect");
}
$res=pg_exec($conn,"some query");

So that the connection handle you get from pg_connect goes to pg_exec as the first argument.

Why don't u use varchar(50) instead of text(50)??

I don't think postgresql supports limited text types. I.e. they should just be declared as text, no parens or numbers.
