Inserting "Enters" in PHP Longtext field

Hello,

I've made some kind of "messaging" system in my website. When users type in a message (just like I do in this screen) they can - of course - give "enters". As far as I can see, the enters are saved in my MySQL database, too.

However, when displaying the data from the database, HTML displays everyting on one line.

Who knows how to put a <BR> tag on Enter?

(the maker of this forum-script should know it anyway :-)

Please don't mind my 'not-perfect' English, It's not my primary language.

I know there have been a lot of posts about this subject, but I still can't find out how to do it exactly.

I picked this from PHP.net:

$string = eregi_replace('<br[[:space:]]/?[[:space:]]>', "\n", $string);

where should I put this? Just after the while when recalling the data from the db, or when I put it into the db?

Use nl2br().

just put it where you print the data.

echo nl2br($data);
