DB Sort

Hello:

I need some help with a db sort that I am trying to do and I am wondering if this can be done with a query in mysql.

Below are the results that I would like to accomplish. I want to have the results grouped by the id but sorted in descending order by timestamp.

id timestamp
5   989612068
1   989611713
1   989610264
1   989610239
9   989610253

SELECT id, timestamp FROM table GROUP BY timestamp DESC
should be what you're looking for..

I wish the situation were that simple. 🙂
As mentioned in my post I want the id's to be grouped together as such, and it is critical that the most current timestamp be listed first:

id timestamp
5   989612068
1   989611713
1   989610264
1   989610239
9   989610253

If i just group by timestamp the id's are not grouped together and everything is sorted like so without keeping the id's together:

5   989612068
1   989611713
1   989610264
9   989610253
1   989610239

Also using GROUP By what happens if the timestamp is the same? In the result you won't get both records.

Is there any other solutions than pulling the data and looping to get the results?
