Sorting a Sort

I am using mysql and this is my statement so far...

select firstname, lastname, uniqueid from alumni order by time desc limit 15.

This gives me the 15 most recently updated users. I now want to sort the resulting 15 users by lastname. how would I do that? Thanks.

Would the following do it?

select
firstname
,lastname
,uniqueid
from
alumni
order by
time desc
,lastname
limit 15

This will first sort in descending order of time, then lastname (in ascending order, which is the default).

Lemme know if this works..

MySQL doest support sorting from sort. I think 🙂

IT doesn't give me any error, but it does not produce the desired result :-(.

Why don't you make an array with each uniqueid and the last name, and the use sort?

Example...

SELECT firstname, lastname, uniqueid FROM alumni ORDER BY time desc, LIMIT 15

Then, for each uniqueid...
$my_array[uniqueid] = lastname; (don't forget quotes)

sort($my_array);

Etc...
