formatting query output

When i run a query on a search engine im in the process of finishing for my site. I just get the results in plain white. I dont even think its in a table like structure.. I want to have each finding shown in a different colored cell.Im sure you know what i mean..What do i have to do??

As a matter of fact, i want the same look as this forum list. See how each topic is either white or lavender??? That is how i want my returned queries to look...Any help would be awsome....

look a... I am like complitely new to this sql stuff and right now I'am going through some pretty cool tutorial on working with mysql. so they gave each row one extra value like 'id' and set it to be an auto_increment number. So that each link has it's own iditifictaion (is that how you spell this? 🙂) aight, and thing was then to see whether id could be divided by 2 without the remainder, and if yes <td bgcolor="different from previous one"> 🙂) ayway, I will try to get my computer started and send you a link, but I think it was on nysql.com site
