Performance issues with MSAccess and PHP

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows about any performance issues of using PHP3 and MSAccess. I'm developing a travel agency site, and am planning to use these two technologies. I know that MSAccess, the application itself can only handle a maximum of 2 concurrent users (although Microsoft states 10 is the maximum), however I'm wondering if accessing the .mdb file has the same restrictions. Can a site using PHP, and and .mdb database handle more than 10 concurrent users or will this simply lock the users accessing the same records etc.

Any particular reason you're using Access tho? Sounds like MySQL or PostgreSQL would do the job if you're at all concerned with running into limits with simultaneous users. And there are lots of good tutorials to get running quickly.

All that said, Access should actually be able to handle as many as 10 users depending upon what you're doing, and PHP won't be the bottleneck. If you only anticipate a handful of users on your machine, it should work quite well.

The reason I'm using access, is because my site is actually being hosted by someone else, and to use mysql I have to pay extra.

Can I just upload the database and connect to this via PHP, is this possible?

Yes, it is. I suppose youre ruung on win32 platform. Try again ODBC, ill help you 🙂)
It`s very simple, trust me. I wrote ODBC library that can:
1) list tables, VIEWs, procedures

2) Browse[sort], update, insert or delete tables

3) Execure views

4) Execure stored procedures(w/o params) generates auto-form and ypu may filled out and execute 🙂 than just view results
